Xenia Students Walking Challenge ’The 20 Mile Edale Skyline Walk from Hope Valley’

We are thrilled to say that WE DID IT! in just over 10 hours, more importantly that we’ve currently raised £700 for Student Minds. The fund raising hasn’t stopped there, any additional donations would be greatly appreciated to help highlight the importance of mental health.

We started the journey in high spirits. As rain set in on the first leg of the journey, character, teamwork and strength was tested to navigate through the clouds.

We quickly found ourselves at the 10-mile mark and we headed out of the rain as quick as we could. The pub was tempting at this stage, however we continued to push on.

The monotonous pounding to the feet, knees and legs started to take its toll as the rolling hills set in for the final stretch. We found ourselves on top of Mam Tor trig point almost being blown away, not just by the views.

After setting off around 8am we had finally made it back in to Hope Valley Village. Rewarding, painful, fun and testing are all words we would use to describe this challenge. Would we do it again? YES.

Student Minds are a UK charity that empower students and members of the university community to look at their own mental health, support others and create change. Through collaborative work with institutions, students’ unions and other organisations involved in the higher education, they take a whole-university approach giving knowledge, confidence and skills to look after your own mental health. While supporting peers and enabling them to create change in their community, a community we want to be a part of.

Our Partnership with Student Minds and Student Space is top priority, as we understand the impacts university can have on a student’s mental health. Needless to say, the past year with the global pandemic has added to the pressure of staying on top everyone’s mental health state. We’ve gone another step beyond with supporting blogs and dedicated social media posts.

An epic walking challenge across the Peak District, more specifically the Edale Skyline walk from Hope Valley stretching 20 miles. We aimed to raise a target of £400 and we smashed that with £700 so far, we’d like to thank everyone for their donations!

It would mean a lot to us and Student Minds for any additional sponsorship, to collaboratively help raise funds and awareness to students’ mental health. We’ve linked below our JustGiving page and greatly appreciate small or big donations.

This isn’t the last challenge, keep an eye out for our next. We would like to extend our thanks to everyone who took part, helping and donating to this tough challenge. As we aim to raise awareness to the brilliant work at Student Minds!
